Netflix brings Leanne back on August 27. Leanne Morgan and Kristen Johnston return as sisters Leanne and Carol, with Celia Weston and Blake Clark again playing Mama Margaret and Daddy John.
The trailer does not take long to change the household. A series of increasingly obvious senior moments leads the sisters to conclude that their parents need more support. Margaret and John move in, turning a show that began with Leanne learning how to live without her husband into one about several generations trying to live with one another.
Caregiving becomes the season's family engine
Morgan has said the storyline connects closely to her own life. Her parents are 83 and 85 and remain in their home, but they require more assistance as they age. She describes the central tension as familiar: nobody wants to surrender independence simply because the people around them have started worrying.
Kristen Johnston says the writers went deeper into both the heartbreak and absurdity of caring for elderly parents. That gives Carol a particularly useful job this year. She is still Leanne's loudest ally, but the sisters now have a problem neither of them can solve by taking the other one out for drinks.
Their relationship remains one of the show's most dependable pieces. Johnston has called the sister stories her favorite material, and the new setup makes it difficult for either character to escape the other for very long.
Starting over apparently has a second phase
Leanne is not finished with the life she began building after Bill. Tim Daly returns as Andrew, while Ryan Stiles is back as her ex-husband. The season-two trailer also plays with dating at 60 and what it calls divorce remorse.
That is slightly different from repeating the first season's question of whether Leanne can move on. She already did, at least enough to discover that moving on creates its own obligations. A new relationship has to fit around adult children, grandchildren, a former spouse and now two parents living under her roof.
The guest list gets noticeably bigger
Netflix has confirmed Lainey Wilson, Jaime Pressly, Billy Gardell and Tyne Daly as new additions, with Benim Foster also appearing during the season. Returning cast members include Jayma Mays, Graham Rogers, Hannah Pilkes and Andrea Anders.
The core creative team remains intact. Leanne Morgan, Susan McMartin and Chuck Lorre created the series, with Morgan and Lorre among the executive producers. Chuck Lorre Productions produces in association with Warner Bros. Television.
Season two is shorter
The first season launched with 16 episodes in July 2025 and entered Netflix's Global Top 10. The new run contains ten episodes.
That success also completed an unusual career jump for Morgan, whose I'm Every Woman had already become, according to Netflix, its most-viewed stand-up special from a female comedian globally since the beginning of 2023. Her sitcom now gets to test whether the audience that showed up for the fresh-start story wants to stay for the part where a fresh start becomes ordinary family life.
Leanne season two premieres on Netflix August 27.
