The opening weekend left very little room for a normal box-office run

Sony reported a $360 million North American opening for Spider-Man: Brand New Day and $932 million worldwide. The domestic figure established a new opening-weekend record, passing the mark set by Avengers: Endgame in 2019.

That meant the movie entered its second week already within touching distance of $1 billion. By the end of its third weekend, the worldwide total had moved beyond $2.02 billion.

Roughly $785.8 million of that figure came from North America. International markets accounted for nearly $1.24 billion, including about $210 million from China.

No Way Home is no longer Sony's ceiling

The record being broken is unusually relevant because it belonged to the same version of Spider-Man. No Way Home, released in 2021, finished with roughly $1.9 billion worldwide and had remained Sony Pictures' biggest theatrical release.

Brand New Day has now passed it before completing a month in cinemas. It is the eighth movie ever to reach $2 billion globally and the second-fastest to get there, behind Avengers: Endgame.

The comparison is not perfectly symmetrical. No Way Home was built around the return of characters from earlier Spider-Man film series and arrived during a very different theatrical market. Brand New Day instead follows Peter Parker four years later, living alone after the world has forgotten him.

For Sony, the accounting result is simpler than the narrative distinction: its most valuable live-action film franchise has produced a new company record from the sequel to a movie that was already exceptionally difficult to surpass.

Spider-Man is carrying more than Sony's own summer

Brand New Day remained No. 1 in North America through its third weekend, adding about $70 million during that frame. The broader domestic summer box office had reached roughly $4.2 billion by then, running 5.7% ahead of the comparable 2019 summer period.

That does not make every recent concern around superhero movies disappear. It does show how uneven the category has become: individual comic-book releases can struggle while a Spider-Man movie with sufficient audience demand operates on an entirely different commercial scale.

The final total is still unknown

The $2.02 billion figure was recorded while Brand New Day was still in active theatrical release. Its final worldwide gross has not yet been established.
